‘BWRT®’ stands for ‘BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®’, a modern model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It uses a totally logical, practical and down-to-earth working method in which it’s not necessary for you to talk about anything you would rather not discuss – the practitioner only needs to know how you feel and how you would prefer to feel instead. BWRT® is unlike any other therapy you might have heard of or read about, using the latest discoveries in neuroscience coupled with your own unique brain processes to help you get better. Only Certified Practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code. Find out more at https://www.bwrt.org

How many sessions will I need?2022-01-01T13:01:17+00:00

That is difficult to answer – it depends on your situation. Sometimes things can be resolved in only a few sessions (especially with BWRT) but there may be a need for more.

I offer session packs – 3, 6 or 9 sessions. We will discuss and agree this during our first session.

Further packs can be purchased as required, as well as individual sessions.

How much does it cost?2024-09-24T16:35:17+01:00

Initial session (90 minutes) £110

Therapy session (60 minutes) £65

Of course, the aim of BWRT is to work effectively, so in most cases there will be a significantly reduced number of sessions required compared to traditional therapy.

What type of therapy is used?2022-01-01T13:03:04+00:00

I use Brain Working Recursive Therapy – BWRT – in most cases, because in my experience it is the most effective form of therapy, for most situations.

I am an ‘Integrative’ psychotherapist – which means I can use different approaches depending on the client’s situation.  Sometimes I will use other types of therapy when appropriate.

Confidentiality2022-01-01T13:05:59+00:00

Confidentiality is one of the most essential parts of therapy. Everything we talk about in sessions is strictly confidential, in accordance with the BACP ethical framework.

I will never disclose any details of my clients or their sessions to anyone else, unless they authorise this in writing, in advance, unless I am required to do so: for example, to protect a client or others from serious harm including safeguarding commitments, and when legally required or authorised to disclose by a court.

Records are stored using the highest level of encryption and 2-step authentication. Internet connection to access files is always done using a VPN. I am registered with the ICO.

Judgement2022-01-01T13:10:34+00:00

Clients often have feelings of shame, guilt or embarrassment about their behaviour, thoughts or past events. All of my sessions are non-judgmental. It is important that the client feels safe to talk about whatever they need to without any fear of being judged.

Of course, with BWRT® the client does not need to disclose what their problem is… they only need to know how they would prefer to feel :-)

Session times2022-01-01T13:15:38+00:00

Sessions last for 60 minutes, of which 55 minutes are therapeutic time. The last 5 minutes are used to close the session, review any ‘homework’, arrange for the next session and arrange payment.

The first session will be 90 minutes long, which allows the client to more fully discuss their situation.

It is important to arrive on time, and to finish on time. This is part of our counselling contract.

Payment2022-01-01T13:20:57+00:00

Payment is required before each session by bank transfer. Details will be provided.

I accept cash or card payments (using a card reader) at the beginning of the session if bank transfers are not possible. I do not accept cheques.

I offer session packs (3, 6 or 9 sessions). Payment is required in advance for each pack or at the end of the first session of each new pack.

Please note that I require a minimum of 48 hours notice for changes to sessions or cancellations, otherwise payment is required in full.

Cancellation Policy2022-01-01T13:25:42+00:00

I ask for a minimum of 48 hours notice if your appointment needs to be changed or cancelled. If the notice time is less than this, the appointment is still chargeable.

Please provide me with as much notice as possible if you cannot make the appointment.

Alcohol and drugs2022-01-01T13:30:51+00:00

It is very important that the client is ‘present’ during the session, otherwise the therapy benefit may be reduced. I ask that clients do not arrive for their session under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If this is the case, it is likely the session will be cancelled, but there will still be a charge.

It goes without saying that you must not drive whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Phones and gadgets2022-01-01T13:35:31+00:00

I ask that mobile phones, smart devices and watches are turned off during the session, to avoid distractions. Of course, there may be a need to leave your phone on – if you might need to stay in touch with someone for example. Please let me know before the session starts.

Ethics2022-01-01T13:40:05+00:00

I adhere to the Ethical Framework of my professional body.

When using BWRT® I adhere to the BWRT Institute regulations.

What happens in the first session?2023-04-18T15:36:10+01:00

During our first session, it is normal to feel nervous.  I will put you at ease, go through the therapy contract and the format of the sessions.  I will ask what you are hoping to get from our sessions so I can clearly understand your situation and how best to work with you. Together we will make a plan and begin work.

I will explain BWRT (in simple terms) and how it is based on science and our understanding of how the brain works.  This is what makes BWRT so effective.

Clients usually leave feeling much more settled.  At the end of the session we will review what has been discussed, and book the next session.  I will always make sure you are ok before you leave.
