Psychotherapy
What is Counselling? Sharing what is troubling you in a safe, supportive environment to a person who is trained to listen and respond in a way that helps you to understand yourself and others better. This helps to find more effective ways to live a satisfying life.
Counselling provides a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space in which to explore your feelings.
Feelings such as anxiety, stress, anger and grief can be distressing, especially if they have been with us for a long time. Counselling helps by exploring and reflecting upon these feelings. It helps you to understand what is at the root of the concern, and can help work towards resolving these difficulties.
What is Psychotherapy? It consists of different talking therapies where you share what is troubling you and are listened to and supported in finding ways forward. Psychotherapy, too, looks at your behavioural patterns that are causing you distress in your daily life. But psychotherapy also works to help you have a deep understanding of your emotions by looking at your past. It questions how what you experienced as a child and young adult affected you in ways that might still be causing you issues now. Psychotherapy aims to find the very roots and beginnings of your issues and challenges, not just how to manage them now.
I consider myself to be a solution focussed psychotherapist: this means that I aim for a goal-focused, evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by finding solutions rather than focusing on problems.
